Utah Parents as teachers is a free program for parents with children between the ages of 0 to 5. Our focus is on helping the parent be their child’s first and most influential teacher by empowering parents to teach. To do this, we offer the following services and benefits:
As a Parents as Teachers Family, You Will Recieve:
Access to Parent Group Meetings
Group meetings will: 
- provide you with information about parenting and child development
- give you a chance to meet other parents with preschool age children
- present you with fun family activities that you and your child can do together
Screenings
Your certified parent educator will:
- use screening tools to asses your child’s overall development in the areas of health, hearing, and vision
- complete regular screenings for early detection of possible problems
- immediately refer you to services that will help your family if a problem is discovered
- early treatment significantly reduces delays!

Resource Network
You will become part of a resource network that will give you easy access to a wide variety of community and family resources. For more information about early childhood resouces in your area, click here.
Personal visits
Your certified parent educator will:
- visit you and your child in your home
- share age-appropriate child development and parenting information with you
- address your individual parenting questions
- empower you to teach your child by helping you observe your child and take advantage of teachable moments in everyday life to enhance your child’s development

- Planning tools for family literacy and lifelong learning
We do currently have a waiting list for home visitors, but you can still participate fully in all of our other services, including the group meetings where you and your family can participate by creating a craft or other fun activity. At the group meetings, we also provide snacks and an informative mini class for parents on relevant parenting and family issues.
